Leeds Festival

The circus was in town on Monday 21st March for the traditional unveiling of the Leeds Festival line-up. Therefore in order to bring you all the details, Sandman grudgingly agreed to be plied with free food and beer for the evening. The things we do for you etc etc...

The upshot? It’s good news for fans of Veteran Metal Bands (Iron Maiden), Veteran Alternative Bands (Pixies), Veteran Punks (Iggy Pop), Veteran Indiekids (The Charlatans), Veteran Defence Lawyers (Marylyn Manson), Tabloid Newspapers (Babyshambles) and Peace Negotiators (A re-united Brett Anderson and Bernard Butler). Other notable winners are the NME whose joint patronage of the 2nd stage seems to have contributed to an almost entirely NME-approved line-up (Bloc Party, Futureheads, Kasabian, The Pete Doherty Lottery etc) and Mean Fiddler’s accountants as weekend tickets will set you back a whopping £125 a pop this year. Better start saving then...

Beverley Folk Festival

Beverley is gearing up for its 22nd Festival in June and has just announced a fair chunk of what looks to be a superb line-up.The Festival will run on the 17th - 19th June and those who have already been pencilled in include Kate Rusby, Karine Polwart, Flook, Martin Simpson, Eduardo Niebla Duo, Chris Newman & Maire Ni Chathasaigh, Eleanor McEvoy, Bernard Wrigley; Rachel Unthank and the Winterset, Tom Napper & Tom Bliss, The Beverley Community Choir, Whapweasel and the Peatbog Faeries.

Musically the festival’s remit has gone far beyond its name and will include everything from Ceilidhs to dub to world music.

Ilkley Moor Festival

Ilkley Moor is set to join the Festival circuit this year as details of the three day event (19/21 August) which has a distinctly local flavour are becoming available. Acts confirmed so far are 10,000 Things, Scaramanga Six, The Somatics, Jon Gomm, Iration Steppas, Simon Scott, Tim Wright, DMX Crew, WIDE Collective, Freakin and Savateen with Dreadzone.

Set on an idyllic hillside around Ilkley the Moor Music Festival takes place with camping on site, full amenities including toilets, food stalls, licensed bars and children’s activities, the Moor Music Festival promises to be a landmark event bringing together some of the very best and freshest local musical talent combined with some extra special guests.

T In The Park / Diesel-U-Music
Entry is now open for bands to submit their music to the T In The Park committee with the possibility of securing a slot at the Festival where, this year, amongst others New Order, Queen Of The Stone Age and Athlete will be playing.

If you’re interested then get to the website, print out an entry form and send it along with your music to;

The Diesel-U-Music competition, a search for unsigned talent, is also looking for entries. Previous winners include Mylo, Tom Vek, DJ Yoda and The Infadels and “Diesel-U-Music can offer radio play, label deals, an agency contract, managerial representation, media coverage, publishing deals and much more to its winners”, apparently.
