This Devils Yours

Ones to Watch

Considering that if all the musicians who reside under the aforementioned band name shared a collated Curriculum Vitae of musical projects, (50% of them played with Sheffield's Fights, 75% in The Rossman Frister Project, one of them comprises the entirety of Blind Harvest, to name but a few; please stop me if this gets confusing), it is fair to suggest that they have controlled the lion's share of quality musical output in the underground realms of the Yorkshire region over the past five years. (Well, almost). Therefore, can their already well-seasoned status afford us the luxury to presume that This Devil's Yours are a musically-profound collective? This is so.

'Sinuous, organic melodies and evocative lyrics mixed together with provocative guitar' is the official enforced description of the band. Already from the available demos, a distinctive sound is emerging, but this is by no means repetitive. 'Dancing Stranger' is a rolling, harmonious and delicate track that is reminiscent of the intricacies and thoughtful, melodious lyrics of more recent Depeche Mode. I.e. 2005's 'Precious'. Alternatively, 'Hold On' is an enigmatic interjection of illusionary and subtle guitar techniques combined with moments of simply fierce and aggressive musicianship.

It is encouraging to write about a band in the present day that is difficult to pigeon-hole, and a tribute to the quadrant of talent that has delivered to us something that is simultaneously familiar and at the same time deliciously alien; a slice of old school rock 'n' roll for the discerning, contemporary Indie rocker.

Their debut album 'Sub' is already complete and receiving treatment from master Engineer Adam Nunn at Abbey Road. There are also some live dates scheduled for the autumn that should be nothing short of electric. But then again, by the time you read this, you probably already know that by now, don't you?
