Playground Mafia
Ones to Watch
A thrilling sound, pumping bass, and an ear for music... Formed by Matt Bruce in early 2008, playground mafia already show great potential with a unique edge about them. Fairly new kids on the block are a three piece electro dance band who are based in Sheffield, and so far seem to be quite a hit. Members Matt Bruce (vocals), Andy Bruce (Vocals, drumpad, labtop), and Michael Rafferty (bass) are clearly passionate about what they do - which of course is essential for making a successful band. With their debut gig at the Boardwalk, Sheffield, on the 7th April attracting around 100 fans, and growing in numbers since, these guys know what will get people interested in them. Since forming they've supported the likes of The Whip, Wiley, Skepta and many more, getting them promoted around different areas. In December they were chosen by BBC Radio Sheffield to play a sold out BBC introducing gig at Sheffield Academy, and future gigs include the White Noise Festival in Birmingham in March, and a debut EP launch at the Plug, Sheffield, in June. So all these gigs will definitely get them on the map, and club nights would be their ideal setting. Many musicians are seeking collaborations with them, so new remixed tracks are imminent, but with who... they are keeping hush hush! It's still early days but there is already label interest, which is all pretty impressive. People are always on the look-out for fresh new talent and Playground Mafia are that talent, so keep your eyes pealed and your ears to the ground, because Playground Mafia are ones the watch out for!
