Super Sarel Sinks Ravaged Reds

Charity (Minor Hull Indie) Celebrity Football

Hull City Super Yellows 3, Hull United Red Raiders 1

The Rocky Nest front-man capped an all-action performance with a brace before Ryan Cherry Cobb put the icing on the cake for Hull City Super Yellows with a superb individual goal – putting the game beyond a plucky Hull United side.

In the first half of this charity football game – including a number of Hull's rock royalty plus a few local hacks (including me) and promoters – it was the Yellow's who had long spells of possession and slick passing, with goalkeeper-manager Bill Topgun inspiring the team.

However, it was United (managed by 'keeper Cory Topgun), who posed the greater threat. That was before City's cumbersome centre-back burst forward to win a corner and from the resulting cross, Sarel stole in at the far-post to volley home.

Despite Tom Holy Order running the midfield, Bill's side could not extend their lead – thanks to some great goalkeeping from Cory and defensive work from Cooper Clique, Harry and James Awful Scenes – meaning the half-time score was just one-nil.

The reason for the Hull's Electro-Disco duo TopGun organising the game was to raise money for Leukaemia Research, but the glints in the player's eyes at kick-off suggested more of local rivalries; this was never more evident that when Dave Kill Surf cruelly scythed down Rory Notebook.

A tactical change at half-time saw the Reds take control of the second-half and it eventually culminated in Tom Paddington burying a loose clearance with a wonderful long-range strike to level the scores. This was the confidence United needed to step up a gear but Mak Sesh held City's defence together.

The turning point in the match came when United-hero Tom handled in his own box to give away a needless penalty, which was converted by Sarel. The goal knocked the stuffing out of the Raiders and with minutes left Ryan Cherry Cobb fine strike turned the result into a formality.
