Bohemian Mods

Ones to Watch

Few bands can say they started life as a GCSE music assignment, but then again few sound quite like the Bohemian Mods. Singer Richard Jackson asked Ben Jeffreys to accompany him on guitar for his school exam, and the bond was forged. When Chris Morton and Sam Bull completed the line-up on bass and percussion, this classy, sophisticated and exciting band came into being.

Listening to them, you would be forgiven for assuming they were a band of much more seasoned players, as theirs is not the brash, indie sound you might expect from such young musicians, but owes more to Jamiroqui and Badly Drawn Boy than it does to their contemporaries.

'All our music and lyrics are 100% our own. Our music is really mellow and calm but at the same time has tasty rhythm and hooks. We are all close friends, which comes through in our music and when performing. We also spend a lot of time together coming up with new ideas for songs and so our play list is constantly changing.' After only nine months together their home recorded demos were being played on Radio Sheffield's Raw Talent show. This led to the opportunity to support Roisin Murphy at the Plug and also Little Man Tate at Sheffield's new Carling Academy.

They have a few more gigs pencilled in around the region and have some recording time booked at 2Fly very soon. Given the ever growing reputation of that studio we can expect to hear much more from the Bohemian Mods.
