We're STILL All America's Bitch

Ok, now I know we've all been through this before, and we've all heard this story before but honestly what is it with British bands desperately wanting to be American. I just don't understand it. The more bands I see, the more dejected I get at the British music scene for to be honest a frank sell out of who we are as people. Why do most of the bands we see insist of putting on an American accent? Go see a punk band and they'll all be pretending to be Blink 182 or Green Day. Go see a rock band and they all want to be Nirvana, Linkin Park or Coheed And Cambria. Don't get me wrong, I have albums from all these bands; for God's sake, Coheed are probably my favourite band in the world, but what's with British bands?

We don't seem to have anyone in the mainstream rock genre that has anything British about them. Every gig I go to, the bands seem to be putting on some fake kind of Tom Delonge accent and seem to forget they're actually from London, or somewhere up north. Think about it, how many American bands do you see putting on a cockney accent? It just doesn't happen.

Ironically though, the British artists that don't put on a fake American accent (see: Lily Allen, Amy Winehouse), seem to do a hell of a lot better in the old U.S. of A, so its not exactly their problem, it's ours. The Americans love the whole British thing.

Maybe it's just me and I'm talking total rubbish and you can correct me if I'm wrong but it just seems as if we're just bending over and taking it up the back-end, just for the sake of a few measly record sales in America. Now let me ask you this: did the Sex Pistols or The Clash have to do that? Did Black Sabbath or Iron Maiden have to fake an accent to be big in America? I think not.

I'm not saying pretending to be, American is a bad thing. Hell, if that's what floats your boat then fair enough, but maybe just think next time you write a song or record a vocal, is this really me?
